Richard "Ben" Maes

Richard B. Maes, affectionately known as Ben, passed away peacefully at home on April 11, 2026. Born in Colorado on April 3, 1940, Ben lived a life marked by faith, family, perseverance, and a deep love for the outdoors.

Ben was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce Rivera-Maes; his parents, Sadie Talmadge and Julian Maes; his brothers, Ike Maes, Glen Maes, Julian Maes, Bernie Maes, and Jerry Maes; his children, Kasey Maes, Nadine Maes, Benito Maes, and Gene Maes; and his stepchildren, Ronnie Cancino and Danny Cancino.

He is lovingly remembered by his children, AnnaMarie Maes, Bernadette Marley (Jeff), April Maes (Ricky), Bobby Cancino, Cary Maes (Nancy), and Dale Maes; his stepchildren, Diane Cancino (Ray), Brenda Colby (Mike), and Mary Jo Montoya (Ernest); his sisters, Helen, Dorothy, Betty Rose, and Lisa; his brother, Joe Maes; his sister-in-law; his brothers-in-law; his best friend, Louie; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, extended family, and dear friends.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Imperial Gardens.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Abundant Life, followed by a reception at the American Legion, 701 W. 9th. Burial will follow at the Maes family ranch in Red Wing, Colorado, at the mountainside gravesite.

In lieu of food or flowers, the family kindly requests monetary donations to help cover food and related expenses. Those wishing to contribute may do so through AnnaMarie Maes.

Ben will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
