Sophie was a WWII bride, married to her late beloved husband Moises Cerda for 60 years. Born in the mining town of Gordon, Colorado to Elias and Erminda Gonzales, Sophie experienced living in the beautiful areas of Red Wing and Sharpsdale in a cabin built by her father. She had such fond memories of her childhood, always with a story to share. She once rode her horse across the mountain to the Great Sand Dunes.
Sophie had a great sense of adventure, having traveled to Spain for their 50th anniversary, on a Disney Cruise, and traveling to Alaska and Hawaii. She truly enjoyed painting. She painted a picture for each of her daughters and grandchildren.
Sophie was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Eleanor Gallegos, Martha Gallegos, and Josephine Turney.
Sophie is survived by four daughters: Barbara (Amos) Vialpando, Betty (Jim) Shoblo, Nancy (James) Callaway, and Lorri (Chris) Pulskamp. Six grandchildren Shanie Krause (Stacy), William Watson, Lisa (Kevin) Holbrook, James (Toni) Shoblo, Sophia Igoe (Jared) and Emmaline Igoe. Two great grandsons Mason and Dominic Shoblo. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Sophie will be laid to rest at a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Colorado Parks and Wildlife Foundation.
