Thomas Pomeleo, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, went to be with the lord on March 25, 2024, at the age of 88.
Thomas began his spiritual journey at the time he was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. He had a devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Holy Family.
He was born to Peter and Rose (Tomsick) Pomeleo on July 12, 1935, in Pueblo, Colorado.
Thomas loved and spent many special moments with Joseph and Rosalie Sciortino who loved him so very much. Thomas found true love and joy in his family. He shared a deep and loving bond with his soulmate, Lillian Sciortino Pomeleo. His pride and joy were children, Tammy Sciortino and David (Heather) Novak and his four grandchildren: David Novak II, Denton Novak, Dru (girlfriend Brittany Vigil) Novak and Drake Novak. He loved and cherished them dearly and instilled the love of God, family, and neighbor. The greatest gift of love Tom (Pops/grandfather) received from his family was much love, prayers, and time spent together.
Thomas was a loving son to his parents, and brother to his sisters, Irene Croshal, Dorothy Sefcovic, Anne Yurglich (deceased), Virginia DeLucia (deceased), Mary Grahek(deceased), and brother Pete(deceased).
He enjoyed visiting his sisters and sharing stories about when they were young, watching the news, and talking about politics. Tom always looked forward to the Pomeleo family reunion where he got to visit with his loved nieces and nephews. Tom spent special times with his brothers-in-law. He enjoyed going to St. louis to visit Sam (Barbara) Sciortino and family. Also eating pizza around the outdoor pizza hut with Louis (Georgia) Sciortino and family. He received and gave much love to numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and special friend Rosemarie Billick, cousin Shirley (Robert) Muniz, and dearest Aunt Frances Colletti.
Thomas believed to serve those in need and shared his life with faith, compassion, and kindness. He found comfort and strength in his beliefs, and his unwavering faith served as a guiding light in his life. Thomas joined the Knights of Columbus (KOC) and was honored to become a 4th Degree Knight. In his many duties as a Knight, his most cherished was cooking and serving pancakes in the Knights’ breakfast at the Shrine of Saint Therese.
He served as a Eucharistic Minister and Catechism teacher at the Shrine of Saint Therese, and Saint Joseph Church. Together, Tom and Lil found great joy in teaching and sharing the Catholic faith with the children. Through a great admiration for Saint Joseph, they helped in preparation of the annual Saint Joseph Table at the Shrine of Saint Therese. They baked spiritual dough art, cookies, and breads.Thomas and his beloved wife, Lil, embarked on spiritual journeys together, including a memorable tour to Italy. They attended a mass at the Vatican with Pope Benedict, visited the tomb of St. Padre Pio in San Giovanni Rotondo, and marveled at the Eucharistic Miracle in Lanciano, Italy.
Highlights of Thomas’ life was going to mass with the grandchildren, especially when they were Altar Servers for Father Liam. A special time in his life was traveling with the grandchildren visiting sacred sites such as the Blessed Sacrament (EWTN) in Alabama. At The Blessed Sacrament, he experienced the profound joy of holding the hand of Mother Angelica, a memory treasured deeply in his heart.
Toms’ favorite time of the year was Christmas. Christmas was important to him because of his devotion to the Sacred Heart Of Jesus and spending time with children and grandchildren in Cabo, Denver, and Texas.Thomas reveled in the simple joys of life, sharing laughter and cherished moments with his family gathered around the dinner table.
His quick wit and warm personality never failed to bring smiles to those around him. He enjoyed making pizzelles, ravioli, Sicilian sausage, and Slovenian potica. He found joy in sharing them with his loved ones, creating lasting memories around the kitchen table. Thomas' bond with his grandsons was unbreakable, as they shared adventures in playing games, swimming, fishing, camping, and motorcycle rides. The family enjoyed embarking on adventures to Disney World, visiting family in St. Louis, Houston, and San Diego. His love for his children and grandsons knew no bounds.
In quieter moments, he sat with his dogs, Sophia, and Phoebe and took in the warm sun while watching the garden and flowers grow. A true enthusiast of aviation, Thomas immersed himself in the world of planes, from building model planes to flying remote-controlled aircraft with friends. He was a talented Artist. He enjoyed touring airplane museums. Tom with many of his friends started the Aircraft Museum at the Pueblo airport.
Thomas had a 42-year career at the CF&I Steel Mill, Rocky Mountain Steel and Evraz. Thomas was a veteran and served in the National Guard for ten years. He was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and camaraderie with his friends.
Throughout Tom’s life he always created time for his friends. He developed many great memories with them including going to breakfast, bowling, and shooting range.
A celebration of Thomas's life will be held at the Shrine of St. Therese Catholic Church (Goodnight Street) on April 9 - viewing 5:00-6:00 p.m. Rosary will follow at 6:00 p.m. Catholic mass will be on April 10 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Our Lady of the Angels Monastery (Mother Angelic) 3222 County Road 548, Hanceville, AL 35077-6360, USA in honor of loved Thomas Pomeleo.
Though Thomas may no longer be with us in person, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his love, kindness, and unwavering spirit.
