Miss Helen was a wonderful teacher and mentor to me. She is probably one of the main reasons that I work for NASA today. She made science and math compelling and allowed me to spend a lot of time in the library, too. I'm sorry for your loss Jimmy and family.

"Miss" Helen was a great teacher and the best basketball coach that I ever had. She was tough and expected the best of all her students and players. I am sure that she made a lasting impression on hundreds of students throughout her teaching and coaching career. She was a great person.

Some of my fondest memories were at Petersburg Elementary. I had the honor of having Ms Helen as a teacher and as coach of the girl's basketball team I was student manager of. As a coach or teacher she was a force to be reckoned with. She clearly loved her job and always found ways to positively impact students. I knew Ms Helen long before I knew who Pat Summit was but I am sure they were cut from the same cloth. I can only hope teachers will strive to have the influence that Ms Helen had as a teacher, coach and community leader.

I can still see Miss Helen leading us in singing, at church and school. It seems she did just about everything in both places. She would even sometimes appear at the cash register in Mr. Ed Scott’s store. She was simply a Christian friend to everyone.
She taught and influenced many people, and even our children and grandchildren as we teach them what we learned from her.
She will be missed by many people. Sincere sympathy to all her family from my family.

What a wonderful lady! I so enjoyed our "banterings" at Southern Manor and the laughs we shared! "Hop" delighted all with her artistic offerings of "gifted" paintings in all mediums, including pumpkins! Conversations of her accomplishments as a coach were inspiring and her loss will be greatly felt in Lincoln County. Her beloved hymn, "Precious Lord, Take My Hand...'' was her repeated request for me to play on the piano and it will be a lasting memory of her for me!

I attended school in Petersburg and had Ms. Helen as a teacher and coach, I think she even coached my mother. She will always remain an icon in my mind. Great memories of her and that school! Deepest condolences to her family.

I first knew “Miss Helen” as a coach as I played basketball at Boonshill! Later I had the privilege of coaching against her as I coached at 8th District. I have continued a relationship and admiration for her especially over the last few years visiting with her at Southern Manor. She was a special person in my life and no doubt had a positive impact on countless students thru the years! We are all better for having known her. Thank God for the life of Helen Bowers.
