

He was born in Giles County, TN on November 8, 1921. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Pate Elder, his parents John Fisher & Edna Elder, a son Larry Marcel Elder, grandson Michael Alan Elder, step-daughter Delene Stone and wife Mable Luthene Elder. He is survived by step-daughter Linda Branch (Vernon) of Tullahoma, four grandchildren Cyndy Stone Allen of Murfreesboro, Tim Barber (Rita) of Smyrna, Melanie Bennett of Lawrenceburg, and Robin Stone of Murfreesboro. He is also survived by four great grandchildren, Emily Barber of Smyrna, Kayla Krieger of Dyersburg, Layne Allen of Murfreesboro, Trace Bennett of Tullahoma, and one great great granddaughter Tayler Krieger of Dyersburg. He is survived by two brothers, William Richard Elder of Nashville, and Bobby Lee Elder of Winchester. He is also survived by four sisters, Hazel Marie Slate of Hendersonville, Martha Ann Clifton of Lawrenceburg, Betty Jean Davis of Roswell, GA, and Janet Elaine Willis of Sheffield, AL.
Mr. Elder was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Tullahoma. He retired from the post office after 37 years of service. His employment also included First National Bank, Pulaski for 2 ½ years and American City Bank, Tullahoma for 8 years. He was a life-time member of VFW Post 4577, Pulaski, serving as Commander and Chaplain. He was a life time member of DAV 97 and American Legion Post 60, Pulaski. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and (NARF) National Association of Retired Federal government employees.
Mr. Elder also served his country well by being a former honored World War II veteran and he had a strong conviction for the armed forces of the United States. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on September 26, 1943. He was inducted at Camp Forrest near Tullahoma. After this, he went through basic training at various camps in Georgia and Mississippi. When basic training was finished, he boarded the Queen Mary in New York City along with 20,000 other soldiers going to Europe. He was a foot soldier and served in battles and campaigns at Normandy in northern France, as well as in various camps in Germany. He received an honorable discharge from the Army.
Funeral arrangements are visitation from 11 till 1 pm on Monday May 14, 2012 at Carr & Erwin Funeral Home, Pulaski, TN. The funeral will be 2 pm Monday May 14, 2012 at Carr & Erwin Chapel with interment in Maplewood Cemetery in Pulaski.
