

George A. Chamberlain, Sr. age 82 of Punta Gorda, FL, formerly of Milton, MA, passed away May 18, 2021. He was born July 31, 1938 in Braintree, MA to Ruth Whitemore Chamberlain. George attended Braintree High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the US Navy as a jet engine mechanic (ADJ2). After leaving the Navy in 1959 he first worked as a jet engine mechanic in St Augustine. He soon returned to Massachusetts and went into industrial engineering at Keystone Camera, Westinghouse, and Hilsinger-Evans. After earning his engineering degree from Northeastern University he worked at Gillette Corp in Boston, where he scouted industrial properties around the world, designed the manufacturing processes and supervised multiple product lines. He retired to sunny Punta Gorda, FL in 1998.
In his younger years, George played guitar in a rock and roll band, “The Mysterians”, and played various clubs and venues in the South Shore area around Boston in the early to mid 1960’s. He could play just about anything on the guitar. He had a lifelong fascination with cars, and he was an excellent mechanic. He was a member of the Peace River Car Club (Peace River Region, Antique Automobile Club of America), The Chevy Auto, Studebaker Club, and the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Car Club. He collected antique cars and guitars. He enjoyed woodworking, and repairing clocks and watches. He loved to sail, and to fish, and he loved all creatures, especially his cats, and the bunnies that he would feed every night. George loved his country and stayed in touch with many of his Navy Shipmates. Above all, he loved his family, and he will be remembered as a uniquely kind and generous man.
George was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Debra Kay (Chamberlain) Crane; his sons, Jeffrey Murray Chamberlain, and James Matthew Chamberlain. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hoy Chamberlain; his children, Retired US Navy Captain, George (Carolynn) Jr.; Elizabeth Marie (Retired USAF Major Nicholas) Marshall, and David Murray (Carolyn) Chamberlain; his grandchildren, Erica Suzanne Chamberlain, Jeffrey Elbert Chamberlain, Mark Ehle Chamberlain, Eden Joy Marshall, Tristan Marshall, Chandler Williams, Katy Chamberlain, Marissa Barr, Philip Barr, Christian Alan Chamberlain, David James Chamberlain, and Melissa Crane (Russell) Smith; great grandchildren, Andrew Connell, Destonee Smith, Russell Smith, Jr., and Ambrosia Smith; brothers, Richard and Frederic Chamberlain; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in George’s honor on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 11am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church; 211 W Charlotte Ave, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. Interment will be conducted in at Milton Cemetery, Milton MA, tentatively scheduled for August 27, 2021. Memorial Contributions in George's memory may be made to one's charity of choice.
