Randolph Eddleston Grant, affectionately known as “Reg,” was born on September 13, 1936, in Kendall, in the parish of Hanover, Jamaica, to Hilka and Ella Grant. He was one of ten children and grew up surrounded by a large and loving family: three older brothers, Ellis, William, and Roy; five older sisters, Inez, Enid, Madge, Gloria, and Grace; and a younger sister, Mernell.
As a young boy, Randolph attended Kendall All Age School and later Cave Valley All Age School. After completing his education, he began his professional life at the West Indies Sugar Company Limited (WISCO) at the Frome Sugar Estate in Westmoreland, where he worked in accounting and administration.
While visiting his cousin, Carmen Ricketts, the Postmistress at the Savanna-la-Mar Post Office, Randolph met a young telegraph operator named Etta Rowtham. Their meeting blossomed into a lifelong partnership. Randolph and Etta were married on October 2, 1965, in Allman Town, Kingston. Together they built a loving home and raised four children: Barrington, Carla, Martine, and Richard. Throughout their marriage, they also generously opened their home to many nieces and nephews, providing support, education, and opportunities during important stages of their lives.
In 1971, Randolph moved with his family to Kingston in pursuit of greater career opportunities. He was employed by Small Cars Limited on Maxfield Avenue and later joined the Jamaica Public Service Company, Jamaica’s largest electric utility provider. While living in Kingston, he worshipped at St. Mary’s Anglican Church.
In 1985, Randolph and his family migrated to New York City, where he worked for many years with the New York City Department of Sanitation until his retirement. During his years in New York, he was a devoted member of St. David’s Episcopal Church.
After retiring in 2006, Randolph and Etta relocated to Deep Creek, a suburb of Port Charlotte, Florida. There, he became an active member of St. James Episcopal Church and faithfully served as part of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew, contributing his time and dedication to church life and fellowship.
On February 19, 2026, Randolph Eddleston Grant passed away at the age of 89.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Etta Grant; his sons, Barrington and Richard; his daughters, Carla and Martine; his grandchildren, Graham, Gabriela, Baldwin, Morgan, Kayley, and Emanuel; twenty nieces and nephews; many grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and a wide circle of extended family and friends.
Randolph lived his life as a jovial and joyful man, known for a laugh that could fill a room and warm every heart within it. He never forgot his family, and he served as a pillar of strength, guidance, and encouragement to many. To his nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, he was a trusted voice of wisdom and steady leadership during life’s many challenges.
His legacy of love, generosity, faith, and family devotion will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
