

Richard Leonard, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and community leader, passed away peacefully at his Punta Gorda, Florida home on March 14, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. He was 67. Richard fought a courageous 15-month battle with cancer and succumbed to his illness with grace and dignity.
Born on May 3, 1957, in Providence, Rhode Island, to Clifford and Evelyn Leonard, Richard moved to Charlotte County, Florida in his early twenties, becoming a long-time resident and integral part of the community. He worked in multiple family businesses and dedicated himself to serving others. Richard lived a life filled with purpose, kindness, and a deep appreciation for nature. He was predeceased by his brothers, Michael and Danny Leonard, and his parents.
Richard’s life was enriched by his love for his family. He was married to Sheri Leonard, who preceded him in death. He is survived by their sons, Brandon Leonard and Tom Hill, and his grandchildren, Jordan Leonard, Cierra Hill, Aubrey Leonard, and Raylan Hill.
He later found love again with Annie Leonard, who survives him along with her daughters, Katie Bullion and Vivian Victor. He is also survived by Annie's mom, Betty Murdock; and Annie's sisters, Kathleen Sullivan and Margarette (Mike) McGhee and their children Malcolm and Maeve.
He is also survived by his sisters, Nancy Leonard, Caprice Kauffman, Michele Deiker, Monique Leonard, his brother Patrick Leonard and many nieces' nephews and cousins. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Richard possessed a generous spirit and a passion for life. An avid fisherman, he found solace and joy in the tranquility of nature, particularly the water. His commitment to serving others was evident in his many years as a Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America, where he mentored countless young men, shaping their character and instilling in them valuable life skills. He was a dedicated volunteer for numerous charitable organizations, including United Way and Habitat for Humanity, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. His civic engagement extended to his service as an elected County Commissioner for Charlotte County, Florida, where he worked tirelessly to improve the lives of his fellow citizens.
Richard will be remembered for his unwavering generosity, his strong work ethic, and his dedication to his family and community. His legacy of kindness, service, and unwavering love will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
