Panama City Beach, Florida. Stephen Norman Singleton, fondly remembered as a dedicated father, loving husband, doting grandfather, cherished brother and trusted friend with a caring and comforting personality and loved by all, said farewell on March 1st 2023, to the life he celebrated for 80 years.
Born September 19, 1942, Steve grew up in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, earning his Bachelor’s degree from The University of Rhode Island. In 1965 he entered the military and began his 27-year career as an Officer in the United States Air Force. Steve rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel and became an Aerospace Maintenance Staff Officer and Commander. Steve earned many honors and recognitions throughout his military career including The Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Overseas Service and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, just a few, among countless other honors. Steve was very proud of his service to his Country. After retiring in Panama City, FL, from Tyndall Air Force base, he began a career at Royal American in Panama City where he managed multi-family properties throughout the state of Florida. Steve eventually settled into retirement and enjoyed playing rounds of golf with his buddies several times a week. Steve made many friends along his way through life and found his favorite watering hole at Triple J’s in Panama City Beach, where he made more friends. Steve’s cherished friends at Triple J’s quickly became his second family. Steve’s kind and gentle spirit and good sense of humor have left their mark on all that have been fortunate enough to cross paths with him. To Steve, family meant everything, and he was always present at his families’ important events, traveling south for holidays, weddings, graduations, birthdays and for impromptu visits to enjoy time with his daughters, grandchildren and family. Steve’s passions were Notre Dame football, all animals, golf and Celine Dion (in no particular order).
Steve was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Irene Singleton, brother, Edward “Ted” Singleton and nephew, Andrew Singleton. Surviving family members include his wife, Susan Singleton, daughters, Jennifer Fryar, Nicole Gomez and Katherine Babbitt, sons-in-law, Al Gomez and John Babbitt.
