Frieda A. Smith, born Aug. 9, 1924, peacefully passed away on May 7, 2011 in Puyallup, WA. She was one of 5 children born to Kurt and Anna Zeutschel. She had 3 younger brothers, Harold, Ray, and Milton and one younger sister, Joyce. Frieda also had 5 older half brothers and sisters, Richard, Kurt, Ruth, Florence, and Annie. Frieda grew-up on the family farm in N. Dakota during the Great Depression, where hard work was the rule. In 1946 she moved to Spokane, WA to live with her sister Ruth. She met Bob James, Sr.there, married, moved to Aberdeen, WA and started their family. They had 2 sons, Bob Jr. and Terry. They divorced in 1956. In 1958 she married Laurence J. "Smitty" Smith and moved to Montesano, where they raised their 4 children. Frieda and Smitty enjoyed the outdoors in many ways, camping, fishing, clam digging and 'trailering' around the back roads of the NW. Frieda was known for her integrity and hard work, smile, sweet disposition, saddle shoes and cookie baking. Her freezer was always full. She was a dedicated wife, wonderful mother, and loyal sister. Her family was her greatest joy. Mom's last few years were probably her hardest, as her every need was dependent upon a caregiver's assistance. She just persevered with a smile. Her warmth and sweetness were a blessing to all. She is survived by Bob (Joyce), Terry (Jean), Jennifer Cobain (Don), and Larry Smith (Debbie), numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held Sat., June 18th at 11 AM Trinity Church, 4041 Tacoma Mall Blvd, Tacoma, WA.
