

John Henry Kerr was born on June 18, 1928 to James and Marie Kerr in Alma Nebraska. He graduated from Palisade High School and later joined the Army and was sent to Korea. He had numerous careers after leaving the service. He held a few positions in the medical field. He worked for Boeing for a time, then started recapping tires and ultimately was a sale representative when he retired to Milton, Washington. He married his first wife Margaret Donahue in 1952, and had three children, a son and two daughters. In 1979 he married Margaret Dahl and acquired six more children, three more sons and three more daughters. He became "Poppy" to innumerable grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He married Cecile Schossow in 2002 gaining another daughter and three more grandchildren. Poppy enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking, dancing, doing charity work through several church organizations, and being the best father and grandfather he knew how to be. Poppy loved people, and he was always there to help anyone in need. One of his favorite things was being a greeter at any of the churches he attended over the years. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Vascular Dementia and was cared for at home by his daughter, Maggie Chamberlain, until his passing on February 9th, 2016.
