

Minoru “George” Uchida was born on April 9, 1922, as the fifth of the six children, born to Sahei and Iwaye (Tsuboi) Uchida in their Pierce County home. He passed peacefully early on Sunday, June 1, 2014, in the home he and his family had occupied for nearly four decades. He is survived by his sons Minoru (Buddy), Sahei (Tracy), daughter-in-law Brandi, grandchildren Rhiannon, Megami, Inari and many loving nephews, nieces, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife Nobue, his sisters Kiyoko (Nishimoto), Kazue (Yotsuuye), Chiyoko “Ruth” (Hung) and brothers Isamu “Sam” and Sho.
Min dedicated himself to the land he nurtured as a lifelong farmer in the Puyallup Valley, his family, and his friends. He was also a patriot who served his country in post WWII Germany. His quiet strength, leadership, generosity, and humility were an inspiration to all who knew him.
Viewings will be held at Powers Funeral Home in Puyallup Friday, June 6 from 4-8 pm and Saturday, June 7 from 10am-2pm. A celebration of his life will be held at the Puyallup United Methodist Church, 1919 W. Pioneer Avenue, Puyallup, WA 98371 at 3pm on Saturday, June 14 with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society.
