I met Ross when I was little through my parents, Ralph and Corrie Vernon in Washington. Then I went to work for him later at Palmanteer Brothers. One time on a muddy hill, I put the stocking truck into reverse instead of 1st and rammed into a garage on a new house. The owner was a big retired marine, standing on a hill with a stern look on his face, watching me the whole time. The sheet rockers were finishing the garage and they ran to the wall and started fixing it. Ross  charged up the hill to the owner and said, "YOU made her do this! What were you watching her for? You didn't BELIEVE she could back into your garage, did you?!" Then Ross went on about the power of positive thinking and started smiling and got the owner to chuckle somehow. I was amazed. I would learn over time Ross was not an ordinary boss. Or person. He had lots of fun and unconventional beliefs. He was an original. He will be dearly missed. My heart goes out to Billie, brother Bill, Devon and her baby, the crew, and my parents and uncles and relatives who cared about him, too. Sending you all love.

Wow...its really neat to see all the pictures of Ross. I noticed from the time he was young up untill now he always sat the same and had the same hand expressions when he was having from the looks of it "intense" conversation. When Ross would talk to me, he didn't speak to me on a surface level. He was always deep in his thoughts with me and I think he did that so I would have a piece of wisdom to take with me no matter how far we were apart. Thank you all for the memories and pictures that you have shared, it has been helpful in the process.

Our hearts are both broken from heartache and full from the great memories.  Ross was everyones best friend, we will miss him dearly.

I knew Ross through my very dear sister-in-law Gina and my brother John.  Every single time I saw him he was smiling.  EVERY TIME!  That's how I will REMEMBER HIM.  His smile made me want to give it back...so HERE'S TO YOU ROSS!  I believe you're still smiling from afar.  It was a pleasure to know you. May the Lord bless you and keep you.

You were truly a one of a kind individual who lit up the room or any other place you were with your infectious smile.  It was an honor to have you as a friend and you will be forever missed..  We will always remember and joke about you telling me, "Stuart, Jeannie saved your life you know."  I wish I could have saved yours!

Devon our thoughts and prayers are with you now and forever. You and your parents were our neighbors in Spanaway. Infact, I babysat you until you were old enough to attend your mom's preschool. Your dad was so special to us. He will be missed by so many people. We will always cherish the memories we have of him.

Devon, we are so very sorry to hear the passing of your father. You and your parents were our neighbors for years in Spanaway. Infact, I babysat you while your mom worked and managed her preschool. After you were older I then went on to also teach at your mom's preschool. Your dad was such a wonderful man. He will be missed by so many people. Doug and I spent the day today remembering all the good times we had with your dad. You are in our thoughts and prayers....

Ross was a truely genuine hardworking , loveable  spirit here on earth that was liked by all! Our sympathy and prayers go out to his family and friends.

    Burl "Gene" Potter was my husband.  He passed away July 2005. We were married 35 years. He, like Ross's other buddies, was in TAC 13. I met my husband in 1969 and hung out with the "guys" at Imperial Beach, CA.
    It's a hard time. I know.  Good thoughts and joyful memories for you.

When my mom and Ross first started dating he took us all (my mom and two sisters) in his caddy to the space needle for dinner. Us little girls all had brand new dresses on and it was such a special night. That is just one of the many wonderful memories I have of this wonderful, kind and funny man. Ross, thank you for all you did for us. Thank you for being a second father to us. Thank you for being kind and loving to our mother. I love you and will never forget you. "This is the feather. It was with much sadness that I heard of Ross's passing. I served with Ross in the Navy in the late 60's. We have visited on the phone on occasion but haven't seen each other in a long time. My heartfelt sympathy to the family.

So happy to have know you. Your spirit holds a very deep place in our hearts! Mexico will never be same with out you. Till we meet again,Walter and Carmen

Ross was one of my closest Navy buddies. We served together while deployed off the coast of Viet Nam on the USS Valley Forge LPH-8 and USS Tripoli LPH-10 with Tactical Air Control Squadron 13 based at the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado, California. We got to see each other several times after our military service. The last visit was June 3, 2011 at Seattle Airport. He was a dear and loyal friend. He offered to bring his work crew to Alabama to help after the deadly tornado in 2011, a long,long way from Tacoma,Wa. Even though we were miles apart, we kept in touch. Much to my regret, not enough. If you have a good friend, don't just think about them....call and visit often. I will truly miss my good friend Ross. To Devon and all of the family, it will be my prayer that you will receive comfort now and in the coming days for your broken heart from our Lord Jesus Christ who can provide it.

Robert Ritchie Bailey

Ross is an old Navy buddy from our days in Tactical Air Control Squadron 13.  We served together while deployed off the coast of Viet Nam and at the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado, California.  Ross and I visited each other many times over the years after our Navy days.  He made several trips to Minnesota and I visited him several times in Washington, but due to the long distance between us, most of the time we had to depend on the telephone to keep each other up to date on what was happening in our lives.  Each time we met or talked on the telephone we were able to pick up right where we left off, though it might have been months and even years apart.  We talked about meeting again in Arizona this winter.  It was just two winters ago that we spent time together in Lake Havasu, Arizona and we jokingly said to each other that we better enjoy the meeting because it might be the last time and it was.   Ross was the most loyal friend I have ever had and I am so happy that by chance I called him a few days before he passed away and told him what a good friend he has been all these years.  To Devin and all of the family please know how sorry I am for your loss.
