

Carmelita C. Dadiz passed away at 81 years of age on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at a Hospital in Queens, New York. She was born on August 12, 1939, in Manila, Philippines, to her parents Pablo Amio Cortez and Feliciana Trinidad Cortez.
Carmelita (“Baby”) is survived by her husband Agapito “Pete” Cristobal Dadiz, MSBA, to whom she married in January 1968. She has three children: Maria Carmina C. Brogna, who is married to Donato R. Brogna; Adonis C. Dadiz; and Arvin C. Dadiz, who is married to Rita Dadiz. She is also survived by her siblings, Enrique T. Cortez and Belen C. Babia, and her 4 grandchildren, Athena, Jade, Aidan and Massimo.
Carmelita immigrated to the United States in 1975 with her husband, 3 children and 1 suitcase. Balancing family, school and work, she graduated from New York University in 1978 with a Master of Science in Food and Dietetics. Determined that her kids should have a better life than her, she worked 7 days a week for 38 years at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center in Queens Village as the Associate Director of Nutrition, and at Oxford Nursing Home in Brooklyn as the Director of Nutrition. Through hard work and dedication, she had a full and fulfilling life while watching her children become successful professionals.
Carmelita was a devoted wife and dedicated mother who loved and cherished her family. She was the best cook, gardener and tailor. She loved to explore new cultures, traveling with her husband throughout the world, including locations in Asia, Europe, Australia, the Caribbean and the United States. Carmelita had a type A personality with a stern attitude and strong work ethic, but a gentle, considerate, loving heart that touched everyone around her. Her unexpected sense of humor and ability to deliver jokes brought smiles and lightened spirits. She will always be in our hearts, our minds and dreams.
