

Catherine Thomas- passed on Sept. 1, 2012 in her 89th year. She was a loving mother to her son John Thomas and her daughter, Kathryn Cortelyou (Pieter). She was preceded in death by her son, George Thomas and her husband Fred Thomas. Catherine is also survived by eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
The youngest of six children, Catherine grew up in Brooklyn and Ozone Park, New York. When World War II broke out, she enlisted in to the Women's Army Corps where she served for three years, achieving the rank of Sergeant.
Catherine was a goodwill ambassador where ever she went. She loved to travel and visited many countries.
After the death of her son, George in 1998, Catherine became a Hospice volunteer at Comprehensive Community Hospice in New Hyde Park. She touched many lives there with her warm smile, gentle manner and sense of humor, not to mention her selflessness. She is remembered fondly by the staff of the Hospice to this day.
Visiting will be at R. Stutzmann and Son Funeral Home- 224-39 Jamaica Avenue, Queens Village, NY, on Wednesday 7-9PM , Thursday 2-4PM and 7-9PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10:45 at Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel in Queens Village followed by burial at Calverton National Cemetery .
