Charles (Chuck) was born on July 26, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio to his, mother, Lu See and his father, Quen. He was the second of 5 children. His family migrated to New York when he turned 5 to start a laundry business in Hollis, Queens. Upon graduating from high school, he attended Queens College, and furthered his education at Long Island University, where he received a Master degree in Business Administration. While pursuing his Master degree, he worked in the Budgeting Department of the US Postal Service. He continued his employment at the Postal Office until his retirement at the end of 1991. His family spanned 4 generations of children (Alvis, Belinda, and Cecilia), 9 grandchildren (Paris, Vienna, Phoenix, Sydney, Ian, Tristan, Samuel, Jiana and Geneve) and one great grandchild (Emilio).
In 1974, Charles received the Lord through the faithful preaching of the gospel by a brother working in a local shoe store. The brother invited him to a Friday night meeting, in which Charles picked him up to go. Lo and behold, the brother did not know the way to the meeting hall causing them to get terribly lost. By the time they found the meeting hall, the meeting was already over. The brothers that lingered behind, greeted him assuming that he was already a brother. When they found out that he was new, they led him to accept the Lord. He came to the next Lord’s Table meeting, where he was warming received by T.S. Liao, the father of Irene. It was Brother Liao’s burden and habit to pay attention to every new one who entered through the door of the meeting hall every Lord’s Day. He would be the first one to pray with the new one and invite that one for lunch. From that point on, after being saved, Chuck found his home in the Church, and he developed a close relationship with Brother and Sister Liao. He then became their means of transportation to the meetings.
Charles, indeed, found his home in the Church. He became fully immersed in the Church life, attending every meeting, and faithfully serving in the taping service. Charles’s relationship with Brother Liao blossomed into a relationship and union with Brother Liao’s daughter, Irene. This issued into a beautiful family life in Floral Park, NY. The Lord blessed this union, and the Ly house became a house for Christ and the Church. Countless numbers of saints were shepherded through the revolving doors of this home. Many delicious meals helped to foster the care of numerous brothers and sisters. The house also became a haven for the young people in the Church.
The Lord moved Chuck and Irene to Great Neck in 2004, where they were concerned people might not be able to find them. However, within the first week, this house also became another haven for young people to visit and stay.
Chuck and Irene visited Churches throughout the world for the building up of the organic Universal Body of Christ. Their destinations included France, Switzerland, Austria, Australia, Hong Kong , Indonesia, China, Malaysia, Singapore, The Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan, Israel, Greece, Turkey, Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico, and many States of the Continental USA. They travelled at least four times a year, 2 live trainings in Anaheim and 2 major international conferences, often held out outside of the US.
In 2018, under the Lord’s leading and the blessing of the Church, at the age of 82 and 92, Chuck and Irene, took a brave step in following the Lord to New Paltz, NY. They moved into their son, Alvis’s home, where Chuck spent the remainder of his days. They met with the saints in the Church in Rosendale and once again, opened their home to the needs of the Church.
Throughout his 95 wonderful years, Chuck really experienced the Lord as his wonderful good shepherd. Psalms 23 is a true description of his whole life.
Psalms 23:1-6
Jehovah is my shepherd; I will lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside waters of rest.
He restores my soul;
He guides me on the paths of righteousness for His name sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I do not fear evil, for You are with me; Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You spread a table before me in the presence of my adversaries; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.
Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of Jehovah for the length of my days.
