David D Karran

David Dharampal Karran passed away peacefully with family at his side on Tuesday, February 12th, 2013 at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, New York. He was born in Leguan, Essequibo, Guyana on February 24th, 1930. He is survived by his five children, Cheryl, Angela, David Jr., Trevor & Robert and by his seven grandchildren, his sisters Nandanee and Hardayah and his two brothers Randhir and Anirude. He will be gratefully remembered by the six surviving siblings of his wife Edna Ismay (deceased) whom he raised from a young age. He will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews and their families.

David was an educator who received a law degree from the University of London and a Masters in Political Science from the University of Windsor. In his professional life, he was the first Registrar of the University of Guyana; a Fulbright scholar; Guyana’s Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations, Consul General of Guyana to Canada and most recently co-founder and Executive Director of the Liberty Center for Immigrants, Inc. in Queens, New York. David lived a life of exemplary service and dedication to others. He was a role model and mentor to communities both in Guyana and in North America. David will be sadly missed and never forgotten by all who knew him and whose lives he touched.

Visitation will be Thursday and Friday 5-9pm. Funeral service at the funeral home on Saturday 9am. Interment to follow Maple Grove Cemetery, Kew Gardens, NY.
