Kathy Vitale passed away peacefully on Monday, May 13, 2014. She was 48 years old. Of Greek descent, she was born in Montreal, Canada, and lived most of her life in Queens Village and Hollis Hills, New York. She is survived by her beloved husband, John, son, Michael, daughter, Marianna, her parents, Emmanuel and Maria Klironomos, and sister, Martha Klironomos.
A beautiful, intelligent and insightful person, Kathy was the anchor of the household, and took care of all of the members of her family while maintaining an active professional life. Throughout the course of her life, she worked in retail management, banking, and, most recently, educational administration.
Her family and friends knew her best as a devoted wife and mother, excellent homemaker and brilliant humorist. As her children were growing up, she was very active in the PTA and Girl Scouts in her chidren's local school and community.
She had an unshakeable zest for life. She always longed to be by the Atlantic ocean, especially at Montauk Point, her favorite place. A restless spirit, she loved to travel to points near and far, Germany, San Francisco, Chicago and Hawaii.
She was a kind, generous, and hospitable person, always there to help a friend, colleague and student in need. She was dearly loved by everyone who happened to come her way, from her extended family and in- laws to her friends, neighbors and co- workers.
She led a heroic battle againgst cancer for the last two years of her life--unlike anyone else we have known--a model of courage and strength. We will deeply miss her and feel blessed to have had her present in our lives. We will profoundly miss her. May her memory be eternal.
