George James McCorkell

George James McCorkell, 63 of New York , passed away, Saturday, January 24, 2015 at his home in Oakland Gardens . The funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, February 25th, 2015 at American Martyrs RC Church, 79-43 Bell Blvd in Bayside at 10:30 am. Entombment will follow at St Michaels Cemetery, 72-02 Astoria Blvd, East Elmhurst, NY.

George was born March 12, 1951 in Brooklyn , New York to John and Eileen (Ginty) McCorkell. He was an Army National Guard reservist during the Vietnam era. After his retirement from Verizon he worked as a general home improvement contractor. His many passions included boxing training and competitions in his younger days and he was a life long physical fitness enthusiast. He was also a devoted Bible reader and was a member of several Bible reading groups.

George is survived by his daughter Kristen Gomez and son-in-law, Juan: grandchildren David, Oscar and Tony; siblings Jack and sister-in-law Graciela, Kevin, Hugh and Ellen and brother-in-law Thomas; nieces Kelly and Eileen and nephews Sean, Thomas, John, John Jr. and Michael.

Memorial donations can be sent in George's name to the American Heart Association.
