Gilbert lived his life to the fullest and touched many. He lived his life the way he wanted.
Tonton Gibi, as he was known by many, was friendly, good-hearted, free spirited and was loved by family and friends. He challenged authority, objected to expected social norms, and fought against injustice. He defended those he loved and supported those in need. He was fearless, sympathetic, appreciative and helpful. He would give the shirt off his back to those in need.
A few hours before his death, Tonton Gibi was surrounded by loved ones in prayer.
In the nursing home, where he spent the last decade of his life, he was admired by the staff and residents. The night before his death, one resident shared her experience with Uncle Gilbert. She revealed that she considered him a friend and used to assist him with his meals. To his nurse Rhoda, he was a friendly gentleman who always had a smile; he will be missed.
He is survived by his daughter Jeannette Ambroise-Lherisson, his oldest brother Reynold Ambroise, his sisters, Therese Fleurentin and Solange Berthoumieux. He is also survived by countless nieces, nephews, grandchildren, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Roger Ambroise, and his sisters, Marie Charlotte Ambroise and Marie Claude Beliotte.
Rest in peace Tonton Gibi.
