Ingrid Louise Richards was born in St Thomas VI, on July 23, 1950. She came to NYC one year later with her family where she was later diagnosed with Epilepsy. Medications used to control her Grand Mal seizures further depressed her mental and motor skills. She was later placed in Willowbrook State School for mentally disabled children. While there, she was visited every single week by her immediate family (mother, sister and brother) and was able to fulfill many of the activities of daily living, we take for granted, such as independently dressing herself, tying her shoes and spelling her name. To ease the travel burdens for her family, she was transferred to the Bernard Fineson Group Home in Queens, where she lived for thirty years. During that time, she became wheelchair bound. Despite her many challenges, she spent many weekends and holidays at home, attended church services, actively participated in family events and was a loving and cherished member of her family. During her life she travelled with her mother, father and nephew to St Thomas and St Kitts and took a cruise to the Bahamas. Following the death of her mother, her condition continued to deteriorate until she had to be placed in Cliffside Nursing Home where she could receive regular Renal Dialysis treatments.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her sister Helen, brother Raymond (Sabu), aunts, uncles, cousins, many nephews, nieces, grand nieces and nephews and many family friends, physicians, ministers, nurses, social workers and attendants from the Group Homes where she lived, who she loved and who dearly loved her. She will now join her Mom and Dad to rest peacefully forever.
