

Lilia Lee Liao, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 12, 2025. Lila (as she was known by) was born on June 4,1944 in Havana, Cuba to Ernesto and Anastasia Lee. She was one of 6 children. She immigrated to the United States in 1961 and moved to Elmhurst, Queens in 1970. There she raised her two daughters: Lilly and Adriana, until finally moving to Forest Hills in 1993.
She worked at a button factory in Chinatown when she first came to New York City in 1961. She would go on to a long career working at several banking institutions, including Bankers Trust, EAB, and Dai-ichi Kangyo Bank/Mizuho Financial Group. She retired shortly after 9/11. Alongside her professional endeavors, she helped out at her father’s restaurant, Asia de Cuba, a beloved Chelsea institution in the 1970s.
She was a world traveler, visiting many countries in Europe and Asia. She loved to spend time with her three grandchildren, who adoringly referred to her as “Tata.”
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lilly & Paul, daughter and son-in-law, Adriana & Eric, sisters, Hildelisa, Carolina, Violeta, & Sofia, and grandchildren, Erica, Ethan, and Lis.
Lila will be well remembered for her infectious personality, fantastical stories, and glamorous demeanor.
Visitation will be held at R. Stutzmann & Son, located at 224-39 Jamaica Ave, Queens Village, NY 11428, on July 17, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and again from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
The funeral service will take place at the same venue on July 18, 2025, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am.
Burial will follow at Kensico Cemetery, 273 Lakeview Ave, Valhalla, NY 10595, on July 18, 2025, from 11:45 am to 12:15 pm.
