Mrs. Johnston was a 25 year plus elementary school teacher in The Floral Park Bellerose school district. She taught kindergarten, first grade, and second grade at both The Floral Park Bellerose School and the John Lewis Child’s School.
She was also involved in many community organizations. Especially, the Floral Park Women’s Club, of which she was a past co-president.
Mrs. Johnston was a 1942 graduate of The Floral Park Bellerose School. A 1946 graduate of Sewanhaka High School. And, a 1950 graduate of Muskingum College (New Concord, Ohio). Mrs. Johnston also held a Masters degree in education from Adelphi University.
Mrs. Johnston was predeceased in death by her loving husband Willard E Johnston, as well as her parents Frank and Madeleine Dornhoefer.
She is survived by her children: Catherine Hennum (Shane) of McKinney, Texas, Jeffrey (Kathleen) of Westport Connecticut, and Rick of Floral Park New York, as well as five grandchildren: Matthew, Alex, and Danielle Johnston and Caitlin and Shea Hennum.
Friends, colleagues, ex-students, and neighbors are all invited and encouraged to attend a visitation/celebration of a long life well lived at Stutzmann Funeral Home located at 224-39 Jamaica Ave., Queens Village, NY 11428 on Friday, January 14 from 4 to 7 PM.
