Victor Stanley Charles III (also known as “Junior”) was born on December 6, 1977, to first time parents Dr. Antoine Victor (“Tony”) and Cerette Charles in Flushing, NY. In addition to his parents, Victor was raised and influenced by many cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents, particularly Grandmas Nanoux and Laurence, Grandpa Victor, uncles Paul and Bob Charles, aunt and uncle Solange and Julien Simon, and godparents Gerty Simon and Jean Claude Sam. As a toddler, Victor’s family moved to Hollis, Queens. His sister Cassandre Lucie was born almost exactly three years after him, and they were inseparable throughout their childhood and adolescence in Queens and Roslyn, to which the Charles family moved in 1987.
Through his formative years, Victor excelled in a variety of areas. He was an honors student and was awarded All County in football and baseball. Victor played the piano, saxophone and trombone, and consistently scored “Outstanding” marks during the annual competition for NY music students — despite relatively minimal practicing (as compared to his sister Cassandre, who practiced for many weeks and only received second tier “Excellent” marks).
Victor obtained his undergraduate degree in Psychology at Georgetown University. After working as a paralegal at a top NY law firm, he obtained his Juris Doctor from St. John’s University School of Law. After working at various NJ firms, Victor discovered his career passion in financial regulations and compliance and held positions at an array of institutions, including MetLife and JP Morgan Chase. Additionally, Victor taught undergraduate business law courses as an adjunct professor at Felician University in Rutherford, NJ.
Victor met the love of his life Jessica Greenhalgh Charles in October 2010. After years of exploring Jessica’s favorite spots in Hoboken, NJ and spending holidays with each of their families in River Edge, NJ and Roslyn, NY, Victor and Jessica got married in New Rochelle, NY in 2017. Victor and Jessica were life partners and best friends. They loved going to the US Open, taking vacations, spending time with their siblings, parents, cousins, nieces and nephews and countless friends, watching sports and arguing over the remote (Victor — the biggest Mets fan and Jessica, a devout Yankees fan; also Victor’s unrelenting allegiance to the Giants, Knicks, Georgetown Hoyas, and St John’s Red Storm causing the couple to watch television in separate rooms), enjoying romantic dinners in their Rutherford, NJ neighborhood and pampering themselves with visits to the nail salon.
Victor will be remembered as an outgoing, jovial and loyal husband, son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew and friend. He will be sorely missed. Victor is survived by his wife Jessica Greenhalgh Charles, parents Tony and Cerette Charles, sister Cassandre Charles Stump, brother-in-law Christoph Stump, nieces Elise and Mirabelle Stump, uncle, aunt, and cousins, Paul, Marie-Jo, Beatrice and Bernard Charles, and uncle Claude Jeanty and family.
