March 29, 1952 – March 24, 2026
Lan Fong “Lana” Liu, a beloved wife, mother, and educator, passed away on March 24, 2026, at the age of 73. A longtime resident of Quincy, Massachusetts, Lana’s life was characterized by her steadfast devotion to her family and community and her lifelong curiosity for the world around her.
Born in Singapore, Lana’s journey took her across the world with her parents, Whye Mok and Chun Loh Mok, to New York City’s Chinatown where she spent her teenage years attending Seward Park High School.
She married Kenny Liu in 1980 and they made their home in Quincy, where she raised her family and became a pillar of the local school system. She found faith in Jesus Christ as a young mother and was baptized in the Chinese Baptist Church of Greater Boston. She also worshipped at Boston Chinese Evangelical Church, and Quincy Chinese Church of the Nazarene
Lana’s career as a teaching assistant at Montclair Elementary School and Wollaston Elementary School left a lasting impact on hundreds of Quincy children and families, particularly helping new immigrants. She spent over 30 years—including after she retired—at Wollaston School. Her commitment to the students and her colleagues was a testament to her generous spirit and work ethic. She was beloved by colleagues and students alike for her caring and joyful nature.
Outside of the classroom, Lana was an adventurer at heart. She loved to travel and found great joy in exploring the world with her friends, including recent trips to Europe and Asia. After retiring and giving up driving, Lana spent hours on long walks around Quincy, often with the company of friends. At home, her greatest pleasure was found in a delicious meal in the company of her family. Whether sharing a meal of sushi, steak, or BaYao Cafe, or playing board games, Lana was at her happiest when surrounded by her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Her family will forever miss her spirited presence and all the ways she showed her love for them, whether it was peeling and cutting fruit, or assembling yearly Easter baskets.
Lana is survived by her husband, Kenny Liu, and she was the loving mother of Steven (and his wife Emily) and Elaine. Her legacy lives on through her seven cherished grandchildren: Talia, Theodore, Alexander, Tobias, Tessa, Ava, and Lucy.
