Marcia L Maloney, of Weymouth, MA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2026, after a brief illness. Born on November 30, 1944, she took on the role of caregiver at an early age following the death of her father, Dagobert Maiolatesi, due to an industrial accident when she was just 6 years old. When her mother Angeline Maiolatesi lost her sight due to a degenerative disease when Marcia was 14, she took on daily tasks that effectively made her head of household. She remained her mother’s primary caregiver for the better part of her life.
After graduating from Quincy High School in 1962, she chose a career of caring for others by becoming a Registered Nurse after attending Quincy City Hospital School of Nursing in 1965. It was there she met a group of women who would become lifelong friends. She worked alongside many of them for over 20 years at Quincy City Hospital before returning to school to receive her Bachelor's in Science from UMASS/Boston, and her Masters from the University of Lowell in Nursing Administration. She finished her official nursing career as a floor manager at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston. Not one to sit idle, she continued in health care as an intake nurse at Manet Community Health Center serving underprivileged community members.
She was a bit of tom boy growing up, as she could climb a nearby maple tree higher than anyone, had the fastest sled in the neighborhood, and once shoved a bully so hard, he fell and broke his arm. She carried that no nonsense attitude through her life.
Food was her love language. She was an amazing cook who would start preparing holiday feasts for friends and family days in advance. There was always too much food. She would often show up to gatherings with a pan of her lasagna.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ted Maloney. They met through a gathering of friends, and at the time, she wasn’t having it. Through persistence, he eventually won her over, and were married on March 11, 1966. They enjoyed vacationing on Cape Cod and skiing in New Hampshire. Eventually, they traded the snowy slopes for the sun and sand of Marco Island, Florida, where they split their time as snowbirds until Ted’s passing in 2017.
Marcia is survived by her children, David Maloney of Malden, MA, and Leigh Ann Dufresne of Havertown, PA, as well as her son-in-law, Ronald Dufresne, and her beloved grandson, Remy Dufresne. She is also survived by her brother, Albert Maiolatesi of Goshen, MA, as well as several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
A celebration of life will be held on February 14, 2026, from 12:00-3:00 PM at Deware Funeral Home, 576 Hancock St, Quincy, MA, 02170.
