Hester Riley Davis

Mrs. Hester Riley Davis of Raleigh, formerly of Raeford, died Monday, June 27, 2016 in Pruitt Health Care of Raleigh at the age of 92. Mrs. Davis was born in Danville, VA on December 6, 1923 to the late Harry and Bonnie Dalton Riley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph P. Davis. Mrs. Davis was a member of the Ernest Myatt Presbyterian Church in Garner, and a former member of the Raeford Presbyterian Church where she previously served as church secretary. She worked for many years at the Law Office of Wilcox, McFadyen & Fields before retiring. She was an active resident of The Heritage of Raleigh, where she had many friends, sang in the chorus and was an accomplished bridge player. She is survived by her daughters, Alice D. Glisson and her husband John of Raeford, Jo Ann D. Harper and her husband Tommy of Raleigh; her son, Joseph P. Davis, III and his wife Markie of Chapel Hill; loving grandchildren, Linda G. Clarkson (Bill Mitchell), John W. Glisson, II, Harrison Harper and his wife Nicole, Joseph R. Harper, Claire Hunter Davis, Riley T. Davis, Joseph A. Davis; great grandchildren, Morgan Alexandra Glisson, Riley K. Harper, Liam S. Harper; several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Friday, July 1, 2016 between the hours of 10:00 am and 11:00 am at the Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Michael L. McGehee officiating. Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery.
