

Obituary for Roy Weaver Wood, Sr. Born: August 12, 1931 Died: June 7, 2010 Roy Weaver Wood, Sr. Passed away on the morning of June 7, 2010 surrounded by his family. Mr. Wood served as a First Lieutenant in the US Air Force as a Jet Fighter Pilot. Upon his separation from service, he founded Wood Spraying Service in Raeford. He also owned RW Cattle Farm, and was a Partner in R&R Pork Farm and Timberland Farm. He was featured in the National TV Show 'PM Magazine' in the 1980s as an Ag Pilot. Mr. Wood served as President and as Treasurer of the National Agricultural Aviation Association. He was also on the Board of Directors for many years. Mr. Wood was instrumental in establishing the North Carolina Agricultural Aviation Association. He served as President for three terms and was on several related committees. Mr. Wood was a founding member of the Hoke County Livestock Association and was a longtime Board of Director for the West Hoke Fire Department. He served on the NC Pesticide Board as a Director for several years. Mr. Wood is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Jeannette, and five children: Sharon Montesanti of Southern Pines; Roy Wood Jr. And wife Patti of Pinehurst; Suzanne Balfour and husband John of Lumber Bridge; Richard Wood and wife Sharon of Raeford; and Randy Wood and wife Rebecca of Raeford. He is also survived by nine Grandchildren and his sister, Virginia Wood Rauch, of Chesapeake, VA. Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He was a member of Raeford United Methodist Church. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday at Crumpler Funeral Home in RAeford from 7-9pm. Services will be held Wednesday, at RAeford United Methodist Church at 11am, with internment following at Raeford Cemetery.
