Mrs. Bennett was born in Charleston SC, on September 29, 1945 to the late Joseph Nealy Smith and Verajean Harrison Smith. She was a prayer warrior and a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. Her devotion and faith in Christ never wavered even through her sickness. Throughout her life she loved to tell others about Jesus, sing her favorite hymns, and to read her Bible. She found great joy in traveling across the world, cooking, sewing, and being a Pastors wife. The Bible teaches us that “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” Mrs. Vera fought a good fight, and she is in eternal rest with the Lord. Today we take comfort in the fact that she was a born-again Christian. Her life was a living example of the Bible verses, Proverbs 31:25-26:” She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years Stephen Wayne Bennett of Raeford, NC. A daughter Deborah B. Locklear and her husband Kevin of Raeford, NC. Two grandchildren Dustin Locklear and Karissa Locklear both of Raeford, NC.
