Alma was born in Castlewood, Virginia to the late Clovis and Eula Sykes, along with her sister, Josephine, and her brother, Frank. She graduated from National Business College in Roanoke, Virginia and worked in accounting roles for the Sears Corporation for over 30 years. Alma was the bright light of her family with a drive and resolve that filled all her life activities. She was an avid gardener, flower arranger and a long-time member of the Laurel Hills Garden Club. Alma was an excellent seamstress who sewed her own clothes for a large part of her adult life. She was a wonderful homemaker for Allen, her husband of over 50 years, along with being a great mother to her two sons, Philip and Stephen. Alma got tremendous enjoyment being a grandmother to her four grandchildren, Mahlon, Emily, Taylor and George. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
