Barbara Ann Penny Broughton

Barbara was born February 9, 1932, in Greensboro, NC, to Oliver Cromwell Penny and Ruth Viverette Penny. She was raised in Raleigh and graduated from Hugh Morson High School in 1951. She married her high school sweetheart, Richard Earl Broughton, in 1951 and had four children, all born in different states, as they moved for Richard's career in the U.S. Air Force. Wherever they lived, Barbara made a home for their family. Upon retirement from the Air Force, Richard and Barbara moved back home to Raleigh, where he began a second career with the U.S. Postal Service and Barbara began a career with the State of North Carolina, primarily in the Department of Public Instruction.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 41 years; a brother, Joe Penny; and a son-in-law, Joe Cramblit.

She is survived by her four children: three daughters, Terry Cramblit of Raleigh, Vikki Hodges (Steve) of Lexington, N.C., Kim Fikoski (Steve) of Cape Coral, Fla.; a son, Rick Broughton of Raleigh; one granddaughter, Nichole Iagnemma (Brian) of Charlotte; and two great-granddaughters, Kylie and Ashley Iagnemma, also of Charlotte.
