Barbara Ann Harbinson

Barbara Ann Harbinson passed to her lord and savior on January 24, 2017. She was born in Newark, New Jersey on April 30, 1948. Her father was John Skelly and her mother was Sue (D’Amore) Skelly. She graduated from East Side High School in Newark.

Barbara was a career airline employee. She began her airline career with Allegheny Airlines in 1968, working there until her son Christopher was born in 1974. She took a 4 year break from work and returned to the airline industry with Eastern Airlines. She subsequently worked for Lufthansa Airlines, United Airlines and finally Delta Airlines from where she retired. In 1968 while working for Allegheny Airlines, she met her husband, Ron, who became her best friend and love of her life. They were married in October 1971 and started their family in May 1974 with the birth of their son Christopher and then a second son Jeffrey born in December 1975. They lived in Old Bridge, New Jersey after marriage and then later Charlotte, NC and Chandler, Arizona before retiring to Durham, North Carolina in 2014. She loved to travel and traveled a good portion of the world, however, her favorite vacations were the annual vacations her family took with her sister Suzanne’s family which included brother-in-law Jack and nephews Jackie and Michael.

She is survived by her husband, Ron and sister Suzanne Meyer. She was preceded in death by her sons, Christopher and Jeffrey, and her parents John and Sue Skelly.

A Private Celebration of Barbara's Life will be held by her immediate family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee or to Duke Home Care and Hospice of Durham, North Carolina.
