She was born Barbara Ann Jobe on March 23, 1930 to L. H. and Lizzie White Jobe, both deceased. She attended N. B. Broughton High School in Raleigh and graduated from Woman's College (UNCG) in Greensboro, NC in 1952 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. She worked as a graphic artist in the Department of Public Instruction until her retirement in 1994.
Barbara married James Michos on May 11, 1957. She was widowed in 1970 and never remarried. Her only child, Melissa Ann Michos of Greensboro, NC, and Barbara's sister, Mary Elizabeth Jobe Hilbourn, WA, survive her.
Barbara joined the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Raleigh in 1973 and was an active member for almost 40 years taking pride that her parents were two of UUFR's founding members in 1949. Barbara served as President of the Fellowship from 1976 to 1977, later serving as Fellowship Treasurer, and worked tirelessly for years as a member of the Aesthetics, Memorial, Finance and Ways and Means Committees. She spent almost every Tuesday morning at UUFR, counting and depositing the Sunday collection, wrote the "About the House" column for the Chalice newsletter and was one of the most knowledgeable unofficial keepers of UURF's history. UUFR was in a very real sense an integral part of Barbara's life and who she was.
Barbara was active in the Wake County League of Women Voters, Democratic Women of Wake County and Wake County Senior Democrats. She also held memberships in the Alumni Association and Minerva Society at UNCG.
A fabulous cook, Barbara enjoyed entertaining and preparing elaborate meals for family and friends. Her culinary skills were vast and knowledgeable. Barbara was a generous, kind, and gracious woman who lived her life to the fullest and in her own way until the end. Many will miss her.

A memorial service will take place June 19, at 3:00 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Raleigh, 3313 Wade Avenue. Her family will receive guests at a reception following the service.
