Bessie Francis Council Council Young

Bessie Francis Council Young, 88, passed away into the presence of her Lord on June 14, 2011, at her residence. She was born on February 2, 1923, in Durham NC to her parents Samuel Council and Fallie Bryan Council.

Bessie was a graduate of Durham High School, where she met the love of her life, Irvin. She received her Bachelor of Education from East Carolina University, and taught elementary school for many years in Wake County. After retirement, Bessie and Irvin loved to golf and travel together. She was a long time member of Forest Hills Baptist Church.

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Irvin; her daughters Ann Young Birdsall of Springfield, VA, and Jean Young of Apex, NC and her son Clay Young and his wife Mary of Sugarland, Texas; her grandchildren Heather Birdsall, Caroline Birdsall Cardino, and Camille Young; and her nieces and nephews, Dr. Beth Powell, William Powell, Dr. Sam Powell, Chris Council, Doug Council, Steve Anderson, Jan Anderson, and Lyn Howell. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother William Council, her sister Annabelle Council Powell and her grandson Dylan Young.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday June 17, 2011 at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh. Interment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service.
