Camille M. (Giarla) Johansson, 67, of Raleigh, passed away at home on April 15, 2015. Camille spent her formative years in the city of Boston, first in the predominantly Italian neighborhoods of the North End and East Boston and then in the Roslindale neighborhood. After graduating from Roslindale High School, she attended the Leland Powers School of Radio, Theatre and Television. Camille had a lifelong love of the dramatic arts, and enjoyed attending performances of all genres, especially stage acting and symphonic concerts which she attended with her family.
As a teenager, Camille enjoyed a successful career as a model, particularly in the area of shoe fashion. She was filmed in a number of print and television advertisements. As a Torch Girl for the United Fund (now United Way) she made numerous public appearances to promote the organization’s mission. Camille successfully competed in numerous beauty pageants and was crowned Miss High School, Massachusetts, in 1963.
After completing her studies, she worked first as a public relations professional and then began a long and successful career in the field of human resources. Camille retired from her managerial duties five years ago after spending almost 40 years in the profession.
Camille was an avid reader and a tremendous cook. The only thing she loved more than spending time with her family and friends was to cook for and feed them. She also had a great love for animals, especially her faithful dog, Sammie and her cat, Paris. She was a loving and caring family woman, who will be greatly missed.
Camille is survived by her husband, Eric Johansson, Jr.; daughter, Cecile Paiva (Eric); step-son, Eric Johansson, III (Katie); grandchildren, John, Michaela, Andrew, Shawn and AnnMarie; brother, Mike Giarla (Ellen Michelson); sisters, Lois Gackenheimer (Drew) and Carol-Ann Galiszuski; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
