Carol Lee Purich, known affectionately as Boop, passed away on January 6, 2026, in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was born on July 6, 1943, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Carl and Orel Divens.
Carol’s life was centered on her family and the relationships she nurtured throughout her life. Carol and her husband, Steve, shared a love story that began at their first meeting, each right away telling friends they had met the person they would marry—and remained devoted to one another for more than six decades. After working as an X-ray technician, she chose early retirement to raise their children, a decision that reflected what mattered most to her.
Carol’s influence was felt most at home, where family breakfast was a daily tradition, a dependable time together that encouraged conversation, closeness, and a strong sense of family that remains deeply meaningful to those she loved.
She chose her faith by her own conviction at age 16 and was baptized at that time. Over the years, her spiritual life continued at Westmont Presbyterian Church and later at Asbury Raleigh Church.
Carol is survived by her husband, Steve Purich; her children Todd Purich (Jodi), Nate Purich (Bonnie Kolber), and Lyn Sellars (Matt); grandchildren Alyx, Tristen, Megan, and Nathan; and great-grandchildren Crosby and Isabelle. She is also survived by her siblings Barbara Appleby, Mike Divens (Melanie), and George Divens.
She built lasting friendships through garden club and tennis and was known for her fun, witty, and loving nature. Her care for others showed up in everyday ways—from always having a hot meal ready to mailing homemade baked goods to family near and far.
A celebration of Carol’s life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes those who wish to honor Carol’s life to support mental health awareness through donations to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness).
