Catherine "Ceci" Hunnicutt Ellington

Catherine “Ceci” Hunnicutt Ellington of Cary, NC passed away on December 24, 2025 at the age of 79 in Statesville, NC. Ceci was born on December 8, 1946 in Raleigh, NC where she grew up and later moving to Cary, NC.

She graduated from Broughton High School and Hardbargers Business College. She worked as an administrative assistant with the Federal Government for 30 plus years. She was actively involved in her sorority Beta Sigma Phi for many years. She received the Order of the Rose and Silver Circle awards during this time. She was elected Sigma Master’s Valentine Queen in 2015-16.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Emmett “Papa Red” and Catherine “Kaki” Hunnicutt as well as her two brothers Butch and Scott Hunnicutt.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Orman Ellington, daughters - Sheri Cook (Phil) and Christi Ellington Choudhary(Zishan), her beloved grandsons Patrick Cook and Levi Cook. Along with her brother and sister in laws, many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by numerous cousins that she cared for deeply.

Ceci will be best remembered for her bubbly personality, infections laugh and giving heart. Along with spending time with her family she enjoyed traveling, southern gospel music, anything Elvis. There was not a baby or animal that passed her by without her stopping to speak to. She brought a shining light to all who encountered her.

The family would like to thank the staff of Brookdale Peachtree- Memory Care in Statesville, NC for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days. They are truly Angels on this earth. The family would also like to thank her sister-in-law, Rhonda Hunnicutt, for all her help in the last several years with Ceci and her husband Orman. We love you so very much.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Mitchell Funeral Home in Raleigh from 10:00 am until 12 Noon. Funeral Services will begin in the funeral home chapel at 12 Noon, with interment to follow Oakwood Cemetery.

For those that would like to give a monetary gift to her caregivers at Brookdale Peachtree Memory Care in Statesville; her daughter, Sheri Cook, will accept any cards and enclosed on the day of service in lieu of flowers.
