He was born on April 20, 1933 and was raised at the Kennedy Baptist Children’s Home, where he met his wife, Lucille Gibbs Spellman and had been married for over 58 years.
He is survived by his son, Charles Albert “Bert” Spellman and wife Lori, and his daughter, Tammy Spellman, and his granddaughters, Liana and Caylin. He will also be missed by his brothers, Ralph and Billy Spellman and his sisters, Judy Shearon and Rowena Ramsey.
Al was predeceased by his parents, Ralph Albert Spellman and Welcome Heger Spellman, and his brothers, Roscoe and Royal Spellman.
The family will receive friends from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on Sunday March 24 at Mitchell Funeral Home. 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh NC. The funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Monday March 25 at the funeral home. Graveside service will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
