Charles Holt Young

Charles Holt Young died Monday, July 4, 2011 at the age of 96. He was a resident at Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh at the time of his death. He was born on February 12, 1915, the son of William J. Young and Katherine B. Young. He graduated from high school in Raleigh and received his undergraduate and law degrees from Duke University. For many years prior to his retirement he was a member of the law firm of Young Moore and Henderson in Raleigh.

He is survived by two daughters, Martha Young Heafner of Harnett County and Carolyn Young Storey of Merritt Island, Florida; his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Scott Young of Raleigh; grandchildren, Anne Heafner Harrison, of Apex, John P. Heafner of Kernersville, Elizabeth Young Wagner of Raleigh, Charles H. Young III of Raleigh, Eric M. Storey of Freeport, Grand Bahama, Brian P. Storey of Raleigh, and Jennifer Storey Plante of Raleigh; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Cozart Young, his son, Charles H. Young, Jr. and his brothers, Jefferson Banks Young and John Early Young.

Mr. Young was a life-long, active and dedicated member of Edenton Street United Methodist Church and at the time of his death was a member of the Cokesbury Isley Sunday School Class. For many years he was an avid fan and supporter of Duke University athletics.

Funeral Services will be held in the sanctuary at Edenton Street United Methodist Church on Friday, July 8, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends in Kerr Hall at Edenton Street United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 7, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Edenton Street United Methodist Church, Zimbabwe Orphan Endeavor, P.O. Box 1970, Garner NC 27529, the Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities, 739 Chappell Drive, Raleigh, NC or the Salvation Army.
