Chauncey graduated from Woodberry Forest School and studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and continued his education at Memphis State University.
He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War as a Nuclear Engineer on the USS Fulton. After completing his service, he met and married the former Janet Stronach Biggs. He began his career with Carolina Power and Light, relocated to Cape Town South Africa for 3 years and moved back to Raleigh. Chauncey was involved in his community through membership at Christ Church, the Sphinx Club of Raleigh and the Milburnie Fishing Cub. In later years, Chauncey worked diligently for his sobriety with alcohol. He proudly succeeded in this endeavor.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Chauncey Lake Royster; his brother, James Finch Royster; and his wife, Janet Biggs Royster.
He is survived by his brother, Collin Harding Royster; his children, Eleanor Royster Hanna and her husband Alain, Robert Bryan Royster, Chauncey Lake Royster III and his wife Christie and James Finch Royster and his wife Erica. He is also survived by his grandchildren, George Bryson Hanna, Chauncey Lake Royster IV, Parker Abee Royster, Sara Claire Royster, Duncan Henry Royster, Addison Camille Royster and Caitlin Elise Royster.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 7th at 11am at Christ Episcopal Church, a reception will follow the service in the Church Commons. Private burial with US Naval honors will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
