Cleo Jones Edwards of Raleigh died Friday, August 8, 2015, after several years of dementia. She was born on September 28, 1933 and was the second of three children in her family. She was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin Franklin Jones; her mother, Maude Boyette Jones; and her older brother, Benjamin Franklin Jones, Jr. Survivors include her husband of 45 years Reese Edwards; their daughter Karen E. Proctor and husband Tony of Apex; and one grandson Brady Reese Proctor of Apex; brother Jerry Jones and wife Barbara of Raleigh; a niece Patrice Sartor and husband Vince: nephew Harry Jones; and niece Suzy Jones.
Cleo’s life is a legacy of service to others. After graduating from Meredith College, she worked as a 4-H agent in Edgecombe County and then as a state 4-H Specialist with the Agricultural Extension Service at North Carolina State University.
She ended her professional career in 1976 to work fulltime as a mother and a devoted wife. Reese and Karen can never repay her for the influence she will continue to have on their lives.
From 1966 until her illness, Cleo was an active member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh, serving as a deacon, co-chair of the Wedding Committee, chair of the Homebound Ministry, a volunteer in the missions program, and on various committees.
A memorial service will be held Monday, August 10, 2015 at Hayes Barton Baptist Church at 2 pm. A visitation will be held one hour prior, from 1-2 pm in the church parlor. Burial will be private.
