

Crafton retired after 52 years of combined funeral service with Screws and Hudson and Brown-Wynne Funeral Homes. He enjoyed a very full and active life.
He was an active member of Zebulon Baptist Church for over 50 years. An ordained Deacon, he served as Church Treasurer for 40 years and as a member of the Finance Committee. He chaired the Together We Build Campaign and co-chaired the Believe Campaign.
Crafton was very involved in the Zebulon Lions Club serving as Club President on three occasions, Club Secretary for 20 years and Club Treasurer for 20 additional years. On each occasion, he was recognized by Lions International as a 100% officer. Crafton served NC Lions as Zone Chairman and District Cabinet Secretary. He was recognized with the prestigious Jack Stickley Award and the Melvin Jones Award, the highest awards given by Lions International Foundation and Lions International. He was the only member of the Zebulon Lions Club to be recognized by Lions International with the 50-year member chevron. Crafton consistently embodied the Lions motto, “We Serve.”
Serving all areas of his community, he was recognized as the Zebulon Citizen of the Year.
An avid fan of ACC sports, Crafton also enjoyed reading, country music, gospel music, visiting historic sites, spending time with his family, zip lining, sharing his handyman skills and he loved hearing and telling a good joke.
He was married to the late, Ruby Holland Hudson, for 60 years. He is survived by daughter, Paula Hudson Hildebrand of Wake Forest, son Crafton Stuart Hudson and his wife Becky McGee-Hudson of Wilmington; two grandsons Jonathan Hudson Hildebrand of Richmond, Virginia and Joseph Holland Hildebrand of Raleigh; granddaughter Abbey McGee Hudson of Wilmington; sister Evelyn Hill of Baltimore Maryland, sister-in-law Helen Holland Tew of Salemburg and brother-in-law Ottis Tyndall of Salemburg as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Zebulon Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Zebulon.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, August 3 at Zebulon Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Zebulon Baptist Church- Believe Campaign at P.O. Box 366, Zebulon, NC 27597 or to the Zebulon Lions Club at P.O. Box 524, Zebulon, NC 27597.
