He decided on a career in the medical field early on and eventually joined the US Army – this was the time of the Vietnam War. He volunteered for the Service Assignment in Vietnam and the "498th Medivac" / 498th Medical Battalion, also known as the 498th Air Ambulance Company, which was a U.S. Army unit operating in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. They were part of the "Dustoff" program, the universal call sign for all U.S. Army medical evacuation missions in Vietnam. Ultimately, he was shot – thus the Purple Heart…
Craig also served in Germany – he enjoyed the culture as well as food and drink (and eventually met his future wife there). Hobbies throughout his life included country music. A dog was added when the kids were little and Craig continued to love dogs for the rest of his life which all the neighbors can attest to.
He is survived by his wife Ulla, his daughter Diana Joy and son Thomas (Tommy).
The family would like to thank the VA Hospital staff, doctors and nurses for for the care and compassion they showed Craig through the years and especially in his final days.
Neighbors and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Mitchell Funeral Home on Monday April 21st 2025 at 12:00 noon to be followed by Interment at Raleigh Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Craig’s honor to GHA Autism Supports https://ghaautismsupports.org/ and https://form.jotform.com/93384832942971
Craig was loved and he will be missed.
