David is survived by his wife, Cheryl; stepdaughter Jennifer Kelker (Paul); and three siblings, Doris Hugo of Centennial, Colorado, Donnie Dixon (Jackie) of Monroe, North Carolina, and Douglas Dixon (Ruthie) of St. Helena, South Carolina, along with extended family and friends who will continue to carry his memory forward.
David attended NC State University and was employed by BellSouth until 1991. Soon after, he and Cheryl opened and operated HobbyTown USA until his retirement in 2015. David’s passion for model building, radio-controlled vehicles, coin collecting, and sports cards allowed him to become a trusted expert and resource for his customers. He was also a history enthusiast with a deep knowledge of historical events and never grew tired of watching historical documentaries. David was well-versed in books covering many cultures, societies, and historical periods.
Very special to him were his beloved canine companions, Alex, Rawlee, Buff, Beason, and Baloo. There was really no animal David could ignore, even squirrels and birds - especially hummingbirds. Some of his most cherished memories were traveling out west including Yellowstone, where he appreciated and enjoyed the magnificent wildlife.
David will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
In memory of David, memorial donations may be made to the ASPCA, PO Box 96929, Washington DC 20090-6929.
