

Delores was born in Raleigh on October 31, 1943 to Roy and Lillie Pollard. The oldest of the family, she was an imaginative caretaker of her younger siblings and cousins, creating imaginative activities and games to keep them entertained. Dee attended Cary High School and attended Chowan College. She was a proud graduate of Meredith College where she studied business management. Over the course of her career, she worked as a dental assistant, in retail, as a bookkeeper, and served in North Carolina state government for over 20 years.
Delores enjoyed glamorous fashion and theater, passions she joined together by volunteering in the costuming department of the Raleigh Little Theater. She was an ardent attendee of theater productions, a frequent patron of shows at DPAC, and an avid moviegoer. Delores also had a great passion for travel, whether visiting the landmarks of England, the museums of France, and the pyramids in Egypt, or enjoying the beauty of the Outer Banks. A long-time member of Layden Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was dedicated to the church's missions work and led the annual Samaritan's Purse charity drives. Delores's caring nature was also evidenced in her family life and in her many lifelong friendships. In her neighborhood, Delores was known for her many years of service on the homeowners' association and for lovingly tending the flowers in her own yard and those of many neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Pollard and Lillie Grissom. She will be lovingly remembered by her sisters, Phyliss Braswell of Raleigh and Rita Woodard (John) of Durham; her niece and the daughter of her heart, Angela Boone of Wake Forest; four nieces and nephews; eight great-nieces and great-nephews; and many friends and neighbors.
A funeral service was held on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at 12:30pm in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC. Burial followed at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens, 7600 ACC Blvd., Raleigh, NC. Flowers are welcome, or donations may be made in her memory to Paws for a Cause or Samaritan’s Purse.
