

GiGi was born in Cortland, New York to the late Marguerite Lois Phoenix and Melvin King Jewett, Sr. She was raised in Richford, NY, relocating to Raleigh in 1965, and was educated in the Wake County Public Schools. She was employed for several years in the retail industry, retiring from Wal-Mart as a Cash Officer in 2019.
She, along with her husband were avid collectors of antiques, focusing on Black memorabilia and doll babies. Collecting antiques took GiGi and Jimmy all over the east coast, from New York to South Carolina. When not collecting antiques, GiGi was passionate about classic cars, being a member of the Piedmont Chevy Classic Club. She enjoyed showing her 1973 Barracuda, as well as Jimmy's 1972 Nova. GiGi loved spending time with her great grandson, Kyle, as well as shopping with her daughters.
In addition to her husband Jimmy, GiGi is survived by her daughters, Joy Thompson Mobley, and her husband, Greg, of Wallace, NC, Ashley Rebecca Grady of Franklinton, NC; step-son, James Grady of Clayton, NC, step-daughter, Melissa Mooneyham of Wendell, NC; granddaughters, Crystal Derry, Candice Hayes, Amber Mobley; great-grandson, Kyle Mobley; sisters, Donna Stevens of Newark Valley, New York, Sue Wirth of Zebulon, NC; brother, Skip Jewett of Clinton, NC.
GiGi was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her grandson, Troy Thompson.
A funeral service was held on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, burial followed in Raleigh Memorial Park.
