Donald Robert Hammond, 86, of Raleigh, NC, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025. Born and raised in New Jersey, he spent the majority of his life in Medford before moving to North Carolina in his later years.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of many years, Kathryn D. Hammond, who passed away in 2015. Together, they built a family whose bonds will carry on their legacy.
He is survived by his three children: Donald R. Hammond, Jr and his sons Tripp and Parker; Jonathan M. Hammond (Michele) and their children Sydney, Jake, and Isabelle; and Jennifer Hammond Senn (Mansel) and their children Lily and David. He was a devoted father and a proud grandfather.
A realtor by profession, he found true joy in helping people find not just houses, but homes. Beyond his work, he lived for music, sports, and community. He coached all three of his children’s sports teams when they were young, creating memories and friendships that lasted a lifetime.
He was a diehard Philadelphia sports fan, cheering passionately for the Eagles and Phillies. One of the great joys this year was watching the Eagles win the Super Bowl with his children.
Sports were a lifelong passion of his—not just to watch, but to play. In high school he could be found on the field, and he carried that love well into adulthood, spending countless happy hours playing tennis and golf with friends.
He will also be remembered for his sense of humor and style. He was voted “Best Dressed” in high school—a story he never let anyone forget.
His friendships were among his most treasured possessions. Many of his closest friends had been with him since high school and earlier, a testament his loyalty and love. He was wonderful, kind, funny, and above all, he loved life.
He served his country honorably in the United States Army, a chapter of his life he held with quiet pride.
Above all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose warmth, generosity, and joy for life touched everyone who knew him.
A service will be held on Monday, October 6th to honor the life of Donald Hammond at 11 am at St. Mary of the Lakes church in Medford, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to a charity of your choice.
Brown-Wynne, 300 Saint Mary's St, Raleigh is serving the family.
