Doris was born a Garrett in Roxboro, NC on April 3, 1925. She graduated from Helena High School in Person County and Kings Business College in Raleigh. After growing up with four brothers and three sisters on a sprawling Person County farm she moved to Raleigh to work in the NC Department of Agriculture. It was here Doris met her husband Carl “Pat” Patterson where he had returned after his service in World War II in France. In short time they started their family. It included four children—one daughter, Rebecca Logan of Raleigh, three sons, Carl “Buddy” Patterson, Alan Patterson, both of Raleigh and Art Patterson of Clayton. As years passed the family grew to include two grandsons, Drew Logan and A.J. Patterson of Raleigh; two granddaughters, Alexis and Lindsay Patterson of Clayton. And great grandson, David Andrew Logan. To be a member of the Patterson family meant being constantly loved, included and encouraged.
Memories included Christmas and Thanksgiving for the whole family and trips to Roxboro to visit relatives. Brunswick stew, corn pudding, sweet potato casserole and egg custard were always the fare. Mrs. Patterson did it all.
After the four children were reared Doris developed another “family” relationship which she cherished. She spent a little over 10 years working at Wachovia Bank at Cameron Village as a teller. Many people were greeted and assisted by her constantly warm and pleasant personality. She also assisted visiting clergy at Rex Hospital. Besides work she participated in the activities of Forest Hills Baptist Church.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, May 7, 2012 at Forest Hills Baptist Church. Visitation will be held at 1:00pm prior to the memorial service in the church parlor.
Memorial contributions may be made to Forest Hills Baptist Church, 201 Dixie Trail, Raleigh, NC 27607 or Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27605.
