Doris' childhood was spent in Washington D.C. and Luray, VA. She graduated from the Medical College of Virginia School of Nursing in 1955. She and her late husband, Dr. Ray Huey Smith, lived in Richmond, VA for many years before retiring to Amherst, VA. She was a Master Gardener and former member of the Amherst Garden Club. She was also an avid reader, knitter, and bridge player. She was later a resident of The Colonnades retirement community in Charlottesville, VA and Magnolia Glen retirement community in Raleigh, NC.
Doris is survived by her daughters Cheryl Smith Wingfield, Amy Smith Scrinzi, and Ellen Smith; grandchildren Amanda Smith, Jeffrey Smith, Laura Itzkowitz, Helen Wingfield, and Philip Wingfield; and great-grandchildren Sydney and Addison Itzkowitz and Olivia and Stephen Whitehead. In addition to her parents and stepfather, Charles Daniel Price, and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Greg Smith.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
