Gerri was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is remembered by many in the Raleigh community from her days as a cafeteria manager at several local public schools, working at Carroll Jr. High School when she retired. Gerri was also an active member of the First Baptist Church in Raleigh, which she joined in 1954, and she loved the “39ers” church group, in which she cultivated many cherished friendships. She was a passionate and tireless traveler and explorer, even making a trip to New York when she was 106.
Gerri’s outlook was always positive and practical, and with 107 years of life experience, she was a treasured source of wisdom for all who knew her.
She is survived by her three children: Robert Harris, Jr., Edward Harris, and Dorothy Harris Bandier (m. Martin); three grandchildren: Jason, Melissa (m. David), and Max (m. Ali); four great grandchildren: Luke, Madalyn, Ava, and Pierce; and one brother, Clarence Lloyd. Gerri was preceded in death by her husband, Robert McGee Harris, and siblings Harold, William, Gene, and Mary Julia.
Gerri will be laid to rest at a private family graveside service and will join her husband, who passed away in 1967, at Oakwood Cemetery.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 2pm at First Baptist Church, 99 N. Salisbury St, Raleigh, NC 27603.
